COURSE DESCRIPTION

"This course is designed to further some of the foundation Geographical knowledge learnt in the Grade 4 course. Students will look in more detail at land forms such as rivers, time zone anomalies, climate zones and types of weather, and introduce other physical geography features and processes, as well as starting to touch on social and historical geography concepts. The study of different cultures around the world will be developed in this course and students will start to examine how different global regions are defined.

THEME OF THE PROJECT

People, Places and Purpose Purpose: By the end of the project the students will have learnt/practised; Research and Analytical Skills; Interpersonal Communication Skills; Information Technology Skills; Hypothesising; and Collaborative Skills

1ST STAGE OF THE PROJECT

The first stage of the project is to create a geographical report for the home location/country of one of the students. This must be agreed by the group.

2ND STAGE OF THE PROJECT

In the second part students can write about their own country if it is different to the first stage choice. If there are no other students from other countries then the team must choose another place (as different to the first location as possible).

3RD STAGE OF THE PROJECT

The third stage is similar to the first as the team must choose another location to write about. The students must try to find a location that is as different from the first two locations as possible.

4TH STAGE OF THE PROJECT

The last part of the team project asks the students to consider and give reasons why they think people chose to live in the three locations written about in the first three stages. Evidence should also be provided.
