Personal Financial Plan

Purpose

By the end of this project, the students will be able to:

Find information about exchange rates
Convert currencies
Conduct cost-benefit analysis
Set financial goals
Develop a savings plan
Identify differences between employment options
Align income with financial goals

1ST STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Currency exchange diary

In week 3, students select two currencies, for example, a US dollar and a national currency, or two foreign currencies. During five business days, students track exchange rates of the selected currencies and record them in a collaborative document on Google Drive, where each student has a personal segment to complete.

2ND STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Setting financial goals

On the first stage of this project (weeks 5 and 6), the students discuss costs and benefits of several financial goals, such as a travel tour or a new computer. They write down their thoughts in a collaborative document.

On the second stage of this project (weeks 7 and 8), each student sets their own financial goal and submits an entry with the reasoning for choosing this financial goal (costs, benefits, and utility of this goal). The value of the financial goal must be presented in national currency and at least one foreign currency.

3RD STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Savings plan

Each student submits a savings estimate for achieving the financial goal set in Stage 3 and a savings estimate for a peer’s financial goal. Based on comparison of own and peer estimates, each student revises their own financial estimate.

4TH STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Sources of income

On the first stage of this project (weeks 13 and 14), the students discuss advantages and disadvantages of several income sources, such as salary-based employment, wage-based employment, self-employment, and property rent. They write down their thoughts in a collaborative document.

On the second stage of this project (weeks 15 and 16), each student selects own source of income, submits an entry with the reasoning for choosing this income source, and aligns the source of income with the financial goal and savings plan submitted on previous stages.
