Weeks 9-12: Narrative Writing (Part 1)

Weeks 13-16: Narrative Writing (Part 2)

Purpose

By the end of this project, the students will be able to:

Define basic writing terms
Follow the stages of a writing process
Create a mind map
Create a paragraph outline
Use simple tenses correctly
Use specific adjectives for describing people, places, and feelings
Evaluate the quality of writing based on a checklist

1ST STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Writing Terms Dictionary



Students put together a dictionary of essential writing terms using a collaborative document. This dictionary will be used as a reference throughout the entire course.

2ND STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Collaborative Mind Map



Students complete three collaborative mind maps. Then each student creates an individual outline based on selected ideas from one of the mind maps.

3RD STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Online Reference of Tenses



Students complete a collaborative document with the rules for basic present, past, and future tenses in English. This document will be used as a reference throughout the entire course.

4TH STAGE OF THE PROJECT

Narrative Text



Each student develops a text based on the outline created on Stage 2. Each student’s text must include grammar points from Stage 1 and Stage 3. At the end of this project, students post their texts on a discussion board and discuss peers’ writing.
